Soda Keg

So, when you hear the word keg, you probably think beer, but I decided to take the effort out of using 2 liter soda bottles so much. I got to thinking, "I'm really lazy. Why should I deal with all these little bottles of soda all the time? Dealing with caps, loosing carbonation every damn time I open the cap is ridiculous." Then I starting thinking about an easier way to enjoy a cold glass of root beer, or ginger ale... Well why not make a small keg? So I did.

I took a 5 gal. bottle used in offices for water, drilled a hole in the top of the cap, and added some complicated plumbing parts to a T. Basically I added a coupling for my air compressor on one side of the T and on the other I added a 4 foot clear vinyl hose with a faucet at the end to dispense the beverage of choice. The air compressor will provide 20 - 30 psi and then then pressure will provide the energy needed to force the beverage through the serving tube into my frosty glass.

Surf's Up

My good friend Sam Giles and I have worked on a few projects together and the outcomes are usually pretty good. Recently we've have been working on a hollow body wooden surfboard.

This project is definitely our most difficult, but it's been the most rewarding so far. We are both decent wood workers; so to work on a project like this, where we can show our skills, is a lot of fun. We're both in college right now so we only work on our board when we're home on vacations and long weekends right now. We're hoping to get the western red and the northern white cedar for the top and bottom soon.

We both can't wait to get this surfboard finished so we can ride on something we hand crafted ourselves. We still have a lot ahead of us though. We still have to process the cedar into workable strapping and lay it down. Then we have to apply four coats of resin with fiber cloth. We are hoping to have our board ready later this spring!
