- 1 1/2 cups elbow macaroni
- 5 tablespoons butter
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon pepper
- 1 1/2 cups milk
- 1 cup shredded Cheddar cheese
- 2 oz American cheese
- 2 tablespoons dry bread crumbs
- Cook macaroni according to directions. Meanwhile, in a saucepan, melt 4 tablespoons butter. Stir in flour, salt, and pepper. Gradually add milk. Bring to a boil; cook for 2 minutes. Add cheeses, stir until cheese is melted.
- Transfer drained macaroni to a baking dish. Pour cheese sauce over macaroni. Melt the remaining butter; add the bread crumbs. Bake at 375˚ F for 30 minutes.
